Conservation organizations are performing an ever more important mission as they advance public and private efforts on behalf of the environment. Outstanding leadership is critical to their success. Therefore, conservation organizations at the forefront have increasingly turned to CTPartners to find the best leaders for senior management roles. Using our experience at the highest levels of business, government, and the nonprofit worlds, CTPartners has developed a specialized practice to bring landmark leaders to conservation and philanthropic organizations.
EXAMPLES
Game-changers – The Everglades Foundation, chaired by hedge fund leader Paul Tudor Jones II, sought CTPartners’ help to find a new CEO. The organization found its new leader in a former Congressional Chief of Staff who knows Florida and national politics as well as an alligator knows Everglades saw-grass. It was an unusual choice that is already producing high-profile success. “This was the best search I’ve ever seen,” Jones said.
Results – CTPartners led the search for a Director of Science at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), a new position created to develop measurable outcomes based on the best science available in the awarding and implementation of conservation grants. NFWF has now raised the bar in conservation nationwide, leveraging its grantmaking to achieve increased accountability and improved results.
Accountability – NFWF turned to CTPartners again in search of a Chief Financial Officer. In just 60 days, NFWF made an offer to a candidate who had served in top financial roles in conservation as well as the corporate world and venture capital-backed start-ups. As a result, NFWF added a Senior Manager with corporate governance, management, and deal experience as well as a passion for conservation.
Fundraising – The Land Trust Alliance is another change leader in conservation – promoting voluntary ecosystem preservation through 1700 private land trusts nationwide. The organization has doubled in size in recent years, and turned to CTPartners to find its first ever Vice President of Development. The CTPartners’ team conducted a national search that resulted in the placement of one of the nation’s foremost development executives with a worldwide network of major donors. “She has institutional advancement in her genes,” one senior leader said of the new Vice President.
