Board Consultants

Practice Overview

For more than 20 years, our distinctive, consultative approach has challenged boards to continuously improve.  We are the architects of Boardroom Consultants, the first firm exclusively devoted to board consultation and search.

Unique Resource
By aligning with CTPartners, we enjoy the expansive resources of a global firm while retaining the nimbleness and independence of a small boutique. Consciously limiting our size lets us access the broadest spectrum of candidates and remain free of concerns influencing larger firms’ delivery.

We are distinguished by the number of long-term relationships we have with leading organizations, a rare accomplishment by a small firm.  Our roster continues to include many of our original clients.

Innovative Differences
Full Continuum of Services
Our mission:  To make good boards better.  And we have, with innovations that address the interconnected processes vital to superior governance and oversight success.

Board Assessment
We have conducted 50+ board assessments, more than anyone in the industry. By personally interviewing each board member, we elicit candid comments leading to stronger composition and overall board effectiveness.  Our in-depth assessments make directors focus on their priorities and be aware of issues that can impact future results.  Boards will know if they are up to the task of dealing with a crisis before it occurs and make better use of face time at meetings.

Director Recruitment
Communicating what clients need to hear has earned their trust.  The result?  None of our 400+ placements have been forced off the boards of leading public, private and non-profit organizations.  They remain active contributors. We prevent mistakes and, with the help of our Advisory Board, bring the best to the table.

Succession Planning
A fluid process, we push boards to keep succession planning at the forefront.  Together we constantly review the board’s capabilities in relation to the present and future.

By virtue of our close relationships and adherence to strictest standards of confidentiality, we are the only firm capable of speaking for the whole board about succession planning.

Board Consultants Advisory Board
Established in the early ‘90s, the Board Consultants Advisory Board is a due diligence network that is second to none.  Comprised of 14 former CEOs and directors currently serving on multiple boards, these individuals provide us with the most insightful perspectives on board service, challenges, and best practices.

To augment our expertise, we obtain independent opinion about candidates’ track records from Advisory Board members and others, testing whether individuals meet the challenges facing new directors.   This greatly broadens our access to qualified individuals and ensures an optimal fit.

Active Contributors to Governance
In the past 20 years, changes in governance have been possible because of our devotion to continuously improving clients’ boards. In addition to published works and leading roundtable discussions, we host an Annual Institute on director and committee independence to help enhance the quality of board goverance.
